Agistment is agreed by phone and nothing records who is responsible for what
Agistment is a small, familiar arrangement between people who know each other, and writing it down can feel like a statement of distrust.
Most agistment disputes turn on liability for animals and on unpaid fees. Without written terms there is nothing recording the fee, the number and class of stock, who provides feed, water, fencing and veterinary care, who is liable if animals are injured, escape or damage property, what insurance is held, or how either party ends the arrangement.
We prepare a short written agistment agreement covering those matters, including who is responsible for moving stock ahead of a flood event. A one-page document is usually enough.
